Planning your wedding
Planning your wedding
is a very special time but it can all too easily
be overshadowed by the amount of work involved
in making all the arrangements for the big day.
Here are a few recommendations to make the run-up
to your wedding as stress-free and enjoyable as
possible:
- Set a realistic date for your
wedding. Don’t try to plan a huge do in
three weeks because you will just be too exhausted
to enjoy it.
- Be organised about your planning.
Keep lists and write things down, so that you
feel in control of proceedings.
- Take time out every so often
to have fun with your partner. If all your time
together is taken up planning the wedding, you
risk losing sight of what it’s really
all about, which is your relationship.

Delegation
and wedding diplomacy
Weddings do tend
to stir the emotions of everyone who is even peripherally
involved. You, the couple, will doubtless be feeling
somewhat emotional yourselves. This is normal
and good but it can put a strain on some relationships
and you will need to be tactful.
Involve other people
in your decisions as much as possible. If your
family and friends are important to you, don’t
let them feel they have ceased to be important
because you are getting married. This does NOT
mean you have to let your mothers organise the
whole thing but it does mean you should sit down
calmly and discuss what you want and the reasons
for your choices. In the end, it is your wedding
but do try to see things from other people’s
points of view as well. If you are in doubt about
anything, ask the advice of your parents, siblings
and/or friends. (You don’t have to take
it!)
Planning a wedding
is an enormous undertaking and you will need some
help. If you approach them right, most people
will be more than happy to assist you in whatever
ways they can. They will be glad to have a role
to play and you won’t have to deal with
every single aspect of the organisation by yourselves.

Wedding
magician Iain Moran offers a free,
20-page e-book on his

suggestions, as well as a timeline to help you
organise the planning. Particularly considering
it’s free, it’s well worth reading.
